Foster care families in short supply in southwest Kansas

There is a need for foster families in southwest Kansas, and one area foster care official believes much of the shortage is driven by misconceptions about foster care.
Physical abuse can happen anywhere, even in the Wichita, Kansas community and surrounding areas. Physical abuse is the infliction of physical harm or the causation of a child’s deterioration. It is important to take action if you notice physical abuse toward a child in your community or in the Wichita, Kansas area.
Physical abuse includes, but is not limited to, the maltreatment or exploitation of a child to the extent that the child’s health is endangered. It may be the result of a deliberate attempt to harm a child, but not always. Physical abuse can occur in Wichita, Kansas and the surrounding areas from severe discipline, such as using a belt on a child, or physical punishment that is inappropriate to the child’s age or physical condition.
In physical abuse, unpredictability, lashing out in anger and using fear to control behavior are elements that are present. These separate abuse from discipline.
