Reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of a child are made to the Kansas Protection Report Center. When a report of child abuse or neglect is made, an initial assessment is made to determined if Child Protective Services should be involved. If a report meets the criteria for involvement, a social work or special investigator looks into the case. Law enforcement may also become involved if a joint investigation is warranted. Child Protective Services or law enforcement make a recommendation to the court if the child is found to be unsafe.
